They brought the "English"character to our country of Canada, as a result of the American Revolution back in 1770-1776. Yup they were Europeans (Great Britain) and they didn't agree with the majority of America's population, regarding seeking independence from Great Britain.  The were loyal to King George, and Great Britain...hence the name...Loyalists!
